Mali violence: Nigerian peacekeeper killed in Timbuktu

A Nigerian UN peacekeeper has been killed and one other injured by unidentified assailants in Timbuktu, in northern Mali, the UN says.

A separate incident in Tessalit left three Chadian peacekeepers injured.

Almost 200 members of the UN mission have died because it was arrange in 2013, making it the deadliest peacekeeping operation on the planet.

Peacekeepers have been deployed to Mali after Islamist militants seized the north of the nation in 2012.

UN Secretary Basic António Guterres has condemned the assaults, saying he’s “deeply saddened” over the loss of life of the peacekeeper.
