The city of Ii in northern Finland needs to be the world’s first zero-waste neighborhood.
They stopped utilizing fossil fuels – and the municipality is decreasing CO2 emissions sooner than another neighborhood in Finland.
Their goal is to scale back carbon emissions by 80% by 2020, which is 30 years forward of the EU’s goal.
Since 2012 they’ve invested closely in geothermal, photo voltaic and wind power initiatives which have paid off: they now generate a revenue of half 1,000,000 euros a 12 months.
